Gather the following items to complete your 2012 Registration Renewal:
1. Practice Hours for 2011 - Locate your most recent 2011 paystub(s) from all employers and determine the number of hours you have worked so far in 2011. Add the number of hours you expect to work until December 31, 2011. Exclude vacation and sick-time hours.
3. Payment Information - If paying fees by VISA or Mastercard, have the card number ready.
Associate Membership
Members leaving the profession are encouraged to renew for a non-practicing Associate Permit for $50. Associate members receive CARE magazine, practice updates and e-newsletters. Those holding an Associate Permit are not able to work in nursing as an LPN.
If an Associate member decides to return to practice before the next Registration Renewal period, the Reinstatement Fee ($50) is covered by the Associat Fee and only the Active Registration Fee is required.
Members Not Renewing
Members not returning to the profession, retiring, or on long-term disability should notify CLPNA of their status by completing the 2012 Registration Renewal Application, or further reminder and notifications will be sent to the member as required by the Health Professions Act.
Individuals without a valid (registration type Active/Limited/Temporary/Conditional) Practice Permit are not authorized to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Alberta, as per Section 43 of the Health Professions Act. Practicing without a valid Practice Permit constitutes unprofessional conduct under the Health Professions Act and violation will subject the individual to disciplinary action.
Members holding an Associate Permit are not permitted to practice nursing as a LPN.
Within two weeks of CLPNA receiving a complete Registration Renewal Application, members can expect to receive their new Practice Permit.
Exception: Members subscribed to the
Pre-Authorized Payment Plan (PAP) to pay for their 2012 Registration Renewal in October may experience a slight delay in receiving their Practice Permit until after their final payment is processed on November 1, 2011.
If a Practice Permit is not received within the above timelines, members are advised to contact CLPNA.
Members and employers requiring proof of LPN registration status should access the CLPNA's
Public Registry.
