NEW Frequently Asked Questions
The Continuing Competency Program (CCP) Validation is set in place to monitor LPN participation in the Continuing Competency Program. The CCP Validation ensures the validity and credibility of a member’s CCP documents and assesses the transfer of learning for LPNs. The CCP Validation monitors the quality and effectiveness of CLPNA’s continuing competence program and member compliance within the program. Through annual review, CLPNA can identify commonalities in professional goals and availability of learning resources. LPNs are selected at random to participate, and are required to provide proof of completion of their learning by completing a Full CCP Validation Package or a Basic Validation form. LPN participation in Validation is mandatory, as outlined in Health Professions Act (2008).
Packages are sent to randomly SELECTED members ONLY.
If you have misplaced your Validation package, please download the documents here:

What do I do if I am selected to participate in the CCP Full Validation?
The CCP Full Validation requires completion of all four parts of the form received by mail. The form has step-by-step instructions to guide you as you verify your learning and rank how it changed your thinking and your behavior. Please complete each step and return the form including verification of learning with your submission.
What do I provide for verification of my learning?
For the CCP Full Validation, please include documents that verify the two learning objectives you completed in 2008 and 2009. This may include copies of certificates, in-service attendance record, or a completed Record of Professional Activities from your CCP binder.
Through documentation and completion of the continuing competence process, you must show evidence of participation in reflexive practice and clearly identify the transfer of learning.
What is the CCP Basic Validation?
CCP Basic Validation is an assessment of a Licensed Practical Nurses continuing competence knowledge, skills, and attitudes. The questions validate what the LPN reported at registration renewal regarding compliance with the CCP. You will also rate the value of the self-assessment tool, guidelines, and available resources. If you are selected for the Basic Validation, you are required to complete and submit it to CLPNA by June 1, 2010.
What is the purpose of annual CCP Validation?
The CCP Validation is set in place to monitor LPN participation in the Continuing Competency Program. The CCP Validation also ensures the validity and credibility of a member’s CCP documents and assesses the transfer of learning for LPNs. The CCP Validation monitors the quality and effectiveness of CLPNA’s continuing competence program and member compliance within the program. Through annual review, CLPNA can identify commonalities in professional goals and availability of learning resources.
Step 1) Verification of Participation in Learning
In this section, you tell us exactly what you did to complete your learning in the two year period including documents to verify learning. In column 1, the year of Validation is noted. In column 2, list the learning objective competency number from the Competency Profile that you completed in the year listed. Next, resources and strategies must be presented for each learning objective, i.e., course name, website address, journal or magazine name, article title, conference name. In the fourth column, state the date learning was completed for each learning objective. Finally, to verify learning, documentation may include; certificates, letter of attendance, transcripts, conference agenda, or a concise Record of Professional Activities (PDF) including date of learning and hours involved.

Step 2) Transfer of Learning
This section is where you tell us how the learning changed the way you think about your practice. Has the learning changed your attitude, perception, or awareness about the particular competency? Did you acquire new knowledge and skill, or just review areas you were already aware of?
Step 3) Impact on Practice
In Step 3, examine how your learning has changed your behaviour. Has this learning made a small change in your practice, or has there been a significant change affirmed by client feedback? Give a detailed explanation of how you behave differently as a result of this learning.
Step 4) Professional Declaration
The Professional Declaration is your self-declaration that you complete to legally confirm your commitment to the Continuing Competency Program process and life-long learning. You simply confirm your professional commitment as an LPN.
The four-part Full Validation examines what you’ve learned and how you’ve changed the way that you think and behave in practice. Although the CCP Validation is mandatory, the process is meant to assist you in understanding how the learning you commit to positively impacts your practice.

Where do I find the Learning Objectives/Competency Number needed in column one of Part 1 on the Validation form?
Your learning objectives should have been quoted on your annual learning plan. If you did not use a competency number, you need to reference the objectives, which are competency numbers listed in the Competency Profile for LPNs.
Then follow these simple steps:
1. Find the section that most applies to your learning (i.e., O - Gerontology Nursing)
2. Find the competency number that applies to your focused learning area (i.e., O – 1 Aging Process and Health Problems)
3. Find the specific competency that applies to the learning you completed (i.e., O – 1 – 4 Cognitive dysfunction)
4. Note O – 1 – 4 in column one of Part 1 of the CCPV form
How many Learning Objectives are required per year on the Validation form?
Since you were only required to submit one learning objective for each of the 2008 and 2009 renewal periods, you only need to validate one for each year. If you submitted more on your learning plan, please submit validation information for each objective.
My Learning Objective changed from what I stated on my learning plan, what do I do now?
If your learning objective changed you need to tell us what you did in place of that objective.
What is valid for Verification of Learning?
Certificates of learning, verification from your employer for in-service/workplace learning, or a completed Record of Professional Activities sheet all constitute verification of learning.
What is the Record of Professional Activities used for?
The Record of Professional Activities can be used if you do not have certificates or employer verification. You can note any learning you completed on the form by noting what you did, how you did it, with summary of what the learning was. For example, if you attended nursing rounds, read nursing magazines & journals, or did some website research, you can note that on your Record of Professional Activities. You can also note courses or any other learning that you do not have formal verification for.
