The CLPNA is encouraging remaining LPNs to complete their 2015 Registration Renewal as quickly as possible before the December 31. If they don’t renew, they will not be able to practice nursing in 2015 without additional delays, fees and paperwork.
After December 31, 2014, online Registration Renewal will no longer be available. After that date, applicants seeking an Active Practice Permit for 2015 must contact CLPNA for a “Reinstatement Application Form” and submit it with payment. Allow 5 business days for processing. Incomplete packages are returned by mail for completion.
Members anticipating contacting the CLPNA for help with Registration Renewal are reminded that the office is closed for Christmas week (December 22-26) and additional holiday hours. See the Calendar below.

$500+ Fine if practicing without a valid Practice Permit
Only individuals with a valid, unexpired CLPNA Practice Permit (Active/Limited/Temporary/Conditional registration types) are authorized to work as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Alberta or use the title “LPN”, as per s43 of the Health Professions Act.
An ‘Associate’ Permit is a non-practicing registration type; the permit-holder is NOT authorized to practice as an LPN in Alberta.
Practicing without a permit is considered unprofessional conduct and subject to the Complaints process. Fines of $500 or more may apply.
