2016 Registration Renewal closes Dec 31 for LPNs

December 31

Alberta’s Licensed Practical Nurses have few days remaining to complete their 2016 Registration Renewal application before the December 31 deadline.

Annual Registration Renewal is required in order to practice and work as an LPN in 2016.

After December 31, 2015, online Registration Renewal will no longer be available. After that date, applicants seeking an Active Practice Permit for 2016 must contact CLPNA for a “Reinstatement Application” and submit it completed with payment. The fee for an Active Practice Permit rises to $400, and reinstatement requires 5 business days for processing. Incomplete packages are returned by mail for completion.

$500+ Fine if found practicing without a valid Practice Permit

Only individuals with a valid, unexpired CLPNA Practice Permit (Active/Limited/Temporary/Conditional registration types) are authorized to work as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Alberta or use the title “LPN”, as per s43 of the Health Professions Act.

An ‘Associate’ Permit is a non-practicing registration type; the permit-holder is NOT authorized to practice as an LPN in Alberta.

Practicing without a permit is considered unprofessional conduct and subject to the Complaints process. Fines of $500 or more may apply.
