Far from just a presentation, a film screening of ‘Falling through the Cracks: Greg’s Story’ at the upcoming CLPNA AGM & Conference aims to touch the heart of the nurse and ‘trigger a movement’ .
REGISTRATION INFO
The 30-minute movie shares the tragic tale of a young Alberta man whose cancer diagnosis and treatment was significantly delayed due to health system gaps. Greg Price ultimately died prematurely.
One could read the
92-page Health Quality Council of Alberta report which describes the systemic breaks in Greg’s care. (Their analysis led to 13 recommendations for improvement.) But getting to know Greg personally and seeing ‘first-hand’ what happened makes his situation tragically tangible.
The film’s production was a labour of love for Greg’s family. His father, Dave Price will speak directly to LPNs following the screening bringing their hope that no one else’s loved ones will go through this in future. They’ve held over 100 similar screenings for health workers and students in the last year.
The movie stars Kevin McGarry (from CBC-TV’s Heartland) as Greg. Award-winning Canadian writer/producer Andrew Wreggitt (
Flashpoint; Grapes: The Don Cherry Story; North of 60) and director Dean Bennett (
Heartland) led the production.
The
2019 CLPNA AGM & Conference – The Alchemy of Professionalism – examines the elements of nursing professionalism, with experts from a regulatory, legal, clinical, research and patient-safety perspective. The Edmonton event runs May 6-7 and registration starts at $210. LPNs may be eligible for a $100 educational grant. Over 350 front-line nurses and colleagues, as well as health care decision makers, managers and administrators are expected to attend.
