The amended regulation, announced on October 17, streamlines how the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) manages registration, and clarifies the LPN scope of practice, especially regarding restricted activities.

An overview has been captured in a 9-minute video, Regulation Changes for Alberta Licensed Practical Nurses (above), regarding the following areas:

  • Register categories
  • Restricted activities
  • Advanced authorizations

The LPNs Profession Regulation comes into force on February 1, 2020. Updates to the CLPNA’s policies and documents can be expected.

The CLPNA is currently developing learning modules to support LPNs that may be performing these updated Restricted Activities in the future. These self-study courses will be available at no cost to members and Alberta’s practical nurse programs.

More information will be released before February 1, 2020. Courses are now available at Study with CLPNA.
