Alberta’s ‘Whistleblower Protection’ Act is under comprehensive review and the Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship is inviting your participation in the process.
The Act “creates a safe avenue for public servants to speak out about wrongdoings or make complaints of reprisal” without fear of punishment, and applies to employees of public sector health authorities, including Alberta Health Services.
On June 15, 2020, the Legislative Assembly of Alberta referred the Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act to the Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship for a comprehensive review in accordance with section 37 of the Act. The Committee began its review on July 7, 2020, and must submit its report to the Legislative Assembly within one year of this date.
The deadline for written submissions is 4:30 p.m. on November 30, 2020.
The Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship is a multi-party committee consisting of 12 Members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The Committee’s website contains a membership list, access to meeting transcripts, and the online feed.
