There are four webinars in the series, each scheduled over the lunch hour, covering the following topics:

Webinar 1: Let’s Talk About Nursing Litigation

Medical malpractice lawsuits affect patients, families, doctors, nurses, the institutions that provide healthcare, our social systems, and the public. Learning about the medical legal risks of nursing can ultimately prevent adverse events from occurring, protect against a lawsuit, and improve patient safety.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • about the three sides of a medical malpractice lawsuit
  • some basic legal definitions
  • the courts view of nursing responsibility
  • the most likely areas for a lawsuit to occur
  • medical legal trends and issues.

Learn how critical it is to understand the standards that guide LPN practice. This webinar will also include a medical legal case study focused on the standards of care on a post-operative unit.

  • the multiple stages of a lawsuit
  • the statute of limitations
  • how it will be determined whether the nurse met the standard of care.

Learn how nursing documentation is examined, and how it can prove whether the standard of care was met …. or not.

Webinar 3: The Four Factors Necessary to Prove Nursing Negligence

In healthcare, we know that poor outcomes are not always the result of poor care. As a nurse, have you ever gone home at the end of a shift concerned that something you witnessed or did that day might be considered negligent and could result in a malpractice case?

Duty, breach, injury, and causation are the four factors considered in a malpractice case. In this webinar, attendees will learn more about these four factors and have the opportunity to examine two separate case studies.

Webinar 4: The Five Most Common Issues with Nursing Negligence

Almost every nursing negligence lawsuit includes one of these five issues: poor communication, inadequate patient assessment, medication error, substandard infection control, or improper use of equipment. Sometimes, several issues are present in the same case.

Learn how following relevant policies, procedures, and upholding standards of practice can protect nurses even when the patient is injured. This webinar will include a look at a medical legal case study focused on infection control in a healthcare facility.
