Video: PTSD Awareness and Mental Health & Wellness Strategies

Research shows there is a high occurrence of stress in the lives of healthcare providers, including nurses, and this can have a significant effect on psychological health and well-being.

This video presented by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta and the Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute, discusses the potential impact of a high stress work environment and the patterns and prevalence of developing post traumatic stress. Strategies to increase awareness and support wellness within the nursing profession are discussed.

The feature story in the Summer 2020 issue of CARE Magazine, ‘Nursing & Trauma – PTSD Awareness’ also focuses on raising awareness about post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for nurses, and looks at PTSD in nursing as an occupational illness. The article includes a special section on coping during the current pandemic. COVID-19 presents a unique set of circumstances that can increase the vulnerability for some predictors of post traumatic stress.
