Associate Memberships to be Discontinued

In response to recent changes in legislation, the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) has completed a review of its membership types. Associate (non-practicing) membership was evaluated as part of this review and it has been determined that the CLPNA will no longer be offering this membership as of January 1, 2023.
Associate Members of the CLPNA have been notified that their membership will be expire on December 31, 2022, and will automatically be cancelled.
Those planning on returning to practice are encouraged to review the Requirements for Reinstatement.
Applicants can apply for reinstatement at anytime. It is recommended that you apply a minimum of 4-6 weeks prior to returning to practice as an LPN. Those planning on reinstating in the future are encouraged to keep apprised of any policy changes through review of the CLPNA website.

This is very unfortunate that associate membership’s will no longer be supported by the CLPNA.
Thank you for your comment. Legislation required that the CLPNA review its processes to ensure alignment with its regulatory mandate. As a part of this review the CLPNA evaluated each of its non-practicing registration types. Associate members are non-practicing and are therefore considered a non-regulated member. As the membership is optional the CLPNA determined that this type of membership would no longer be offered.
with this new legislation, can we still study online in Alberta
Only LPNs with an active practice permit with the CLPNA will be able to access the learning modules through myCLPNA. Ongoing continuing competence activities are an annual requirement necessary to renew the practice permit.
