Registration Renewal for 2023 Begins October 1
Annual Registration Renewal for Alberta’s Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) begins October 1, 2022.
LPNs must successfully complete the annual Registration Renewal process to work in Alberta in 2023. The process is also used to cancel registration if you do not plan to practice as an LPN in Alberta.
The College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) encourages all LPNs to renew before December 1 to pay the lowest registration fee of $350. For those who delay, the renewal fee is $550 when submitted between December 2 to 31.
Formal notices will be sent by email from the CLPNA’s Deputy Registrar throughout the renewal period.
DON’T PRACTICE WITHOUT A PERMIT
Anyone found working as an LPN after December 31st, 2022, without a valid Practice Permit may be subject to disciplinary action from the CLPNA, including $500+ fines.
Only those individuals with a current CLPNA Practice Permit are authorized to work as an LPN in Alberta or use the title ‘Licensed Practical Nurse’ or ‘LPN’.
The process to become reinstated may take weeks and involves the CLPNA’s Registration and Complaints Departments. Fees totalling $1280 must be paid, including $780 in Practice Permit Fees and a $500 Complaints Fee if the applicant worked without a valid permit.
PREPAYING REGISTRATION RENEWAL FEES FOR 2024
Starting January 1, 2023 LPNs may sign up to pay in advance for their 2024 Registration fee through the Pre-Authorized Debit Plan (PAD).
The PAD Plan is self-managed through the member’s profile in myCLPNA.com where members can subscribe/unsubscribe, update banking info, and check their balance.
Those LPNs who are currently participating in the PAD plan in 2023 should note that the monthly fee will be adjusted to reflect the temporary 11-month transition period as the 2024 annual registration renewal period moves back one month to be September 1 – November 30.
See Changes Coming to LPN Registration Dates in 2024 for more information.
