Video: Understanding Restricted Activities and Advanced Practice

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) practice has evolved since 2003 when the regulation was first proclaimed under the Health Professions Act. The current regulation authorizes LPNs to perform a broader range of activities to support care provided to individuals and their families.

The LPN Profession Regulation identifies the LPN scope of practice related to restricted activities and advanced authorizations, including areas of advanced practice

This video provides an overview of the Standards of Practice on Restricted Activities and Advanced Practice with specific focus on the following areas:

Current regulation, including the LPN Professional Regulation, authorizes Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to perform a broad range of activities to support care provided to individuals and their families.

It is crucial for LPNs to understand their scope of practice related to the restricted activities that they perform as well as advanced authorizations and areas of advanced practice.

  2. There’s so much of education required to be able to do these Restricted Activities. As an LPN in B.C we’re not allowed most of them. I’m so proud to be an LPN knowing our scope is so Advanced in Alberta. Thanks so much it was an eye opener and lots of clarification about skills.
