The College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) has a legislated duty under the Health Professions Act to approve all nursing education programs. This includes diploma programs, programs leading to advanced authorization by the CLPNA Council, as well as refresher programs.

Effective February 2, 2026, the CLHA will also approve all health care aide education programs. Programs approved by the CLHA Council will be listed on the Approved Health Care Aide Programs page once the process is established.
