To work as an HCA in Alberta, providers must be registered and have a valid practice permit from the CLHA.
To be registered with the CLHA, you must complete an application and meet all necessary requirements in the Policy: Registration Requirements. For more information, please see: Registration Information.
We encourage all applicants to check their requirements through their MyCLHA account regularly. Monitoring your application status is important. Please remember, it is your responsibility to ensure that all necessary documents are submitted to the CLHA.

For applicants who have graduated from an approved program in Alberta and never held registration in another province.
Applicants who are registered in one of these three provinces can apply through Labour Mobility.
Applicants from other Canadian provinces can apply and complete a substantial equivalence assessment.
Applicants from outside of Canada can apply and complete a substantial equivalence assessment.
Alberta nursing students who wish to work as an HCA can apply and complete a substantial equivalence assessment.
For applicants who were once registered with the CLHA as an HCA and want to be registered again.
For applicants registered in ON, BC, or NS practicing in Alberta for less than three months.
