This learning module was developed based on research outlining practicing nurses’ and student nurses’ learning needs related to working with older people. Research shows practicing nurses and student nurses indicated they need further professional development associated with the care of clients related to safety, mobility, continence and comfort care.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the types of safety measures used in mobilizing older adults during comfort rounds.
- Describe the risk factors (physical, psychological and medical) involved in mobilizing older adults during mobility.
- Apply knowledge of assessment of risk of injury before and during mobilization, and when performing comfort care duties.
- Identify barriers to effective mobilization, safety, continence and comfort, and the strategies to mitigate them, and the strategies to mitigate them.
- Understand and apply the standard principles in safety and mobility of older persons.
