Council Connections: 2024 Year in Review

The CLPNA Council sets a direction for the organization, provides oversight of finances, and monitors objectives and results.

Note that the Council update in this year’s Annual Report covers the shortened fiscal year, January to November 2024.

Bylaw Updates

The Council approved Bylaw updates to change the registration and fiscal year to December 1 – November 30. The registration and fiscal year for 2024 was 11 months, from January to November. Additional bylaw changes include information about the suspension or termination of Council members and information about publication of conduct information.

Council Policy Updates

Amendments were made to the Council’s Code of Conduct. This included the following additions:

  • notification for being charged with a criminal offence at the earliest opportunity,
  • notification of conflicts of interest at earliest opportunity,
  • annual disclosure of involvements with other organizations, and
  • annual signing of a commitment to confidentiality form.

Ownership Linkage Activities

To inform strategic decision-making this past year, the Council engaged in work to support better understanding of the populations that the CLPNA and LPNs serve and the role of a regulator in an evolving healthcare system.

In 2024, the Council heard from experts and other interested parties on topics such as healthcare system changes and the role of the LPN in providing safe care in a dynamic practice environment. Understanding how the system has changed will help the Council set the direction for the organization. It helps to ensure that the CLPNA can continue to serve the public by supporting its registrants in providing safe, competent, and ethical care.
