Strategic Update 2024

In 2024, the CLPNA advanced in the Strategic Direction laid in our 2022-2025 Strategic Plan.

The CLPNA’s Annual Report covers key activities performed under each of our three strategic pillars: strengthening service delivery, enhancing collaboration and confidence, and evolving professional competence.

Note that the Strategic Update in this year’s Annual Report covers the shortened fiscal year, January to November 2024.

Strengthening Service Delivery

  • Implemented a program review feedback survey to support the continual improvement of the CLPNA’s education program reviews.
  • Developed new resources to support LPNs completing registration renewal, including a step-by-step video guide and a webinar where LPNs could ask questions of CLPNA staff.
  • Updated CLPNA-created policies and guidelines to better align with the Health Professions Restricted Activities in specific practice areas.

Enhancing Collaboration and Confidence

  • Implemented coaching sessions to address complaints of unprofessional conduct, supporting LPNs in providing safe and ethical care.
  • Participated in research to support understanding of the entry of internationally educated nurses into licensure and practice environments.
  • Analyzed registrant survey data to gain insight into regulatory factors such as fitness to practice and continuing competence.

Evolving Professional Competence

  • Released professional communication module to address LPNs’ professional responsibilities to demonstrate effective and collaborative communication.
  • Developed Standards of Practice on Cultural Safety and Cultural Humility to replace an existing guideline in supporting the integration of cultural safety into LPN practice.
  • Launched scope of practice resources to support LPNs in their decision-making and provide information on scope of practice to other interested parties.
