Updated Code of Ethics for LPNs
A new version of the Code of Ethics for Licensed Practice Nurses (LPNs) is available on the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) website.
See the Knowledge Hub listing for more information about the changes to the Code.
What Is a Code of Ethics?
LPNs use the Code of Ethics together with professional standards, employer policies, and regulatory and legislative requirements to guide their practice and behaviour.
The Code of Ethics articulates six fundamental principles, listed below, which govern LPN practice and which LPNs are accountable for upholding.
- LPNs promote optimal health and well-being.
- LPNs provide care that is physically, psychologically, and culturally safe.
- LPNs provide and advocate for client dignity, autonomy, and self-determination.
- LPNs develop therapeutic relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
- LPNs maintain personal well-being.
- LPNs contribute to a health practice environment.
