Video: What is a Restricted Activity?

Restricted activities are high risk health services listed in section 1.3 of the Health Professions Act. They require additional education, skills, and direct, indirect, or indirect remote supervision.

An LPN is authorized to perform restricted activities outlined in Health Professions Restricted Activities Regulation and in accordance with requirements in standards of practice. However, the LPN must ensure they have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do so in a specific situation and environment. If the LPN does not, they are responsible for seeking assistance to ensure the client receives the required care. The requirements for supervision of restricted activities in the practice of licensed practical nursing are outlined in this document where necessary.
