Explains the CLPNA’s interpretation of the criteria on “actively engaged” for applicable applicants and current registrants. All LPNs must fulfill the actively engaged requirement which includes 1000 practice hours over the preceding four-year period.
October 2025 – Updated to clarify the criteria for meeting the actively engaged requirement under section 3(2)(c) of the LPN Regulation. It specifies who the requirement applies to, excluding recent Alberta graduates, those who have completed a refresher program, and labour mobility applicants. The policy also outlines qualifying professional activities and possible exceptions. The policy now allows formal post-secondary education relevant to LPN practice to count toward the 1,000-hour actively engaged requirement, either fully or in combination with practice hours.
