Audit Notices Will Be Sent by May 3, 2024

Every year, the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) randomly selects approximately 10% of registrants to participate in the Continuing Competence Program (CCP) audit. Notices will be sent out by May 3, 2024.

The audit verifies that LPNs have met the requirements of the CCP.

What Is the Continuing Competence Program?

The CCP provides LPNs with a framework for assessing competence. LPNs are expected to meet the continuing competence requirements to renew their practice permits on an annual basis.

The CCP Guide provides information on the requirements of the program.

What Are the Expectations of the CCP Audit?

LPNs selected for the audit this year will need to complete two separate requirements:

  • The learning plan audit
  • The practice hours audit

LPNs can access the CCP Audit Rubric to support them in meeting the requirements of the learning plan audit.

New This Year: Practice Hours Audit

LPNs who are audited in 2023 will also need to upload supporting documentation for the practice hours audit. This can include:

  • verification of employment from an employer,
  • a printout from an employer portal that includes hours, and/or
  • a letter from an employer or HR Department.

Practice hours worked during the registration year are declared on the registration renewal application. LPNs are required to practice a minimum of 1,000 hours in the preceding four-year period.

The Practice Hours Audit Guide will provide more information about this requirement.

Submit the Required Information

To complete audit requirements for 2023, the required information for both the learning plan audit and practice hours audit must be submitted.

If an LPN does not meet the requirements of the CCP audit, registration renewal may be refused for the upcoming year.
