Privacy Legislation Micro-Module

Document Type: Learning Modules

Overview

The purpose of regulation is to ensure that regulated healthcare providers, such as Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), practice in a safe, competent, and ethical manner.

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) have a professional and ethical responsibility to practice within the relevant laws governing privacy and confidentiality of patient information. This means all LPNs have the duty to safeguard a patient’s personal and health information as well as respect a patient’s right to privacy. LPNs are ultimately responsible for determining and understanding which piece of privacy legislation helps fulfill this commitment.

This micro-module assists LPNs in understanding various provincial and federal privacy legislation and how it impacts LPN nursing practice.
