IMPORTANT: To work in Alberta, Licensed Practical Nurses must have registration and a valid practice permit from the CLPNA.
Student Membership is an opportunity for those enrolled in an Alberta practical nurse diploma program to receive information on initial registration, regulation, and nursing policies as well as access to learning modules.
Student Membership is a non-practicing registration type. This means that student members are not permitted to work as an LPN or use the restricted title of Licensed Practical Nurse or LPN.
Student Memberships are valid for up to three years. You can apply to obtain an extension for additional years.
Upon successful completion of the practical nurse program, student members may apply to the CLPNA to obtain a Provisional practice permit and take the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam (CPNRE).
PLEASE NOTE: This membership is not associated with the Provisional application process. The fees connected with the membership will not be applied to your Provisional registration in the future.
Applicants and registrants can expect these standards when interacting with the Registration Department at the CLPNA.
The Registration Service Standards policy outlines registration service standards at the CLPNA.
