Alberta’s 14,000 Licensed Practical Nurses have until December 1, 2016 to complete and submit their annual Registration Renewal in order to practice as a nurse in 2017.
Notices are sent October 1 to the majority of CLPNA members who hold an Active Practice Permit or an Associate (non-practicing) Membership. Members who did not receive a notice should inform CLPNA at firstname.lastname@example.org, 780-484-8886 or 1-800-661-5877 (toll free in Alberta).
Renewal Deadline: December 1
Members are asked to renew before the December 1 deadline to receive the lowest registration fee.
CLPNA Council has noticed a concerning trend recently of members not renewing by the December 1 deadline as outlined in the Bylaws. In an effort to encourage members to renew on time, they have increased the renewal fee to $400 if it is paid between December 2 and December 31.
RENEW EARLY AND WIN $350
Active members who renew before November 1 will be automatically entered into the “Ready, Click, Win!” Contest to win back their Active Registration Renewal Fee of $350. To be eligible, members must submit a completed 2017 Registration Renewal application for an Active Practice Permit by November 1. The winner will be selected by random draw and their name will be publicly announced in mid-November.
Don’t let your Practice Permit expire
Only individuals with a current CLPNA Practice Permit are authorized to use the titles ‘Licensed Practical Nurse’ or ‘LPN’, or work as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Alberta, as per Section 43 of the Health Professions Act.
Working as a LPN with an expired or invalid Practice Permit is considered unprofessional conduct and violation will subject the individual to disciplinary action, including fines of $500 and up.
Confirming registration on the Public Registry of LPNs
To confirm the current and future registration status of a LPN, specialties or conditions, anyone can search CLPNA’s Public Registry of LPNs by name or registration number.
