The researchers, writers, and illustrators have put down their pens, and a unique history of practical nursing in Alberta is soon going to press. It seems fitting for during the World Health Organization’s Year of the Nurse and Midwife to acknowledge the regulatory growth of the LPN profession.
‘A Special History of LPNs’ edition of the CLPNA’s CARE magazine reviews over 70 years, including the establishment of the profession, the fight for pay equity, changes in education and standards, the impact of the profession on public health, and the progression from the beginning of self-regulation to today’s regulatory structure.
Especially for those on the general register, a bold, newly-designed lapel pin proudly declaring ‘LPN’ will be included.
